DECORATING TIP

cornice

For you Do-It-Yourselfers, try a "no-sew" kit for making window shades or cornices. These are most often limited to a window no wider than 3 feet but some can be extended. But, as the name implies, these kits require no sewing and with detailed directions are also easy to do. Look for a variety of kits at Joann's Frabics and Craft stores.

DECORATIVE  WINDOW TREATMENTSwindow treatment

When choosing window treatments, it's a good idea to start by determining your budget. From simple to elaborate, they can be done at 3 different price levels...Custom-where your  window treatments can be custom made from a unlimited amount of styles and fabrics. Semi Custom-where they can be made from a limited number of styles and fabrics. And finally,  Ready-made drapes, curtains and valances are limited in style and fabric choices but are one of the most economical way to dress your windows.

Choosing the style that works best with your room's decor is the hardest step of all.  Magazines are a great place to gather ideas. Chhoose a couple of styles and fabrics and discuss them with your designer. They can help find what will work best for your room and your type of window.

Finally, the perfect drapes will look all wrong with a rod that is too small or is the wrong color. Drapery rings and finials for the ends of the rods all need to be the right size and style.

As kids go from Tween to Teen, their interests change and how they live in their rooms changes as well. It's time to thin out the stuffed animls and box up the  Beanie Babies. When the time comes to update your teen's room, we can act as  buffer between what is your house but your kid's room. We start with your teen's favorite color. From there, the internet can be a huge help. Many furniture and accessory companies such as JC Penny, Pottery Barn and Bed, Bath and Beyond have specific departments for kids, teens and dorms. In this case, we quickly narrow decor choices to 2. We then order them both so we can actually see and feel the bedding and accessories. Then we let your teen choose their favorite and we go to work transforming the room into their haven.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE TV

wall tv

There is a lot being said about the type of television you will need as of February 2009. But little is being said about what size television will work best for your viewing needs. First of all, BIGGER IS NOT BETTER! The size screen you purchase should be determined by the distance you will be watching from.

TV Size Based on Viewing Distance
                    30"                    6-7 feet
                    35"                    8-9 feet
                    45"                  9-10 feet
                    50"                10-11 feet
                    55"                11-12 feet
                    60"                12-13 feet
                    65"                13-14 feet

Also, make sure that your stand, console or entertainment center is the right size for your television. Nothing looks more precarious than a 40" TV sitting on 24" end table. The stand should be at least 6-8" wider than the TV itself.

If you're still in doubt about what size TV to buy or where to place it in your room, contact us.
