REDESIGNING PATIO'S AND DECKS
When April showers bring May flowers our thoughts and activities head outdoors. Your outdoor furniture should get the same attention as the rest of your home. First and foremost, cut out the clutter. It's hard to relax in an area that has become a catch-all for stuff that you don't know where else to put. Second, place your furniture to create comfortable conversation areas. This will make even a small area more inviting. And when the sun goes down, decorative lanterns and candles can add just the right touch of ambient lighting.

FEATURED REDESIGN |
  Before After
This attractive but narrow deck appears larger and more comfortable once we created separate conversation areas. When the chairs are lined up on either side of the deck it makes for a narrow
walk-way through the center. Also, anyone sitting on the end constantly has to lean forward to see or converse with everyone else. A decorative indoor/outdoor area rug helps to define the space and decorative accessories are arranged for function as well as fun.

FUNCTIONAL OUTDOOR LIGHTING
|
Your bright and sunny deck and patio can be a lighting challenge when the sun goes down. Overhead lights can be harsh. Candles and lanterns, though romantic and soothing, don't give off enough light if you want to read, play cards or just spend time with the family. Outdoor lamps are a great option. They are made of weather resistant materials with heavy bases to prevent wind damages. All the components from the light bulb to the cord are protected from the elements. These lamps can be found at patio furniture stores as well as in Lowe's lighting department.
